Keythorpe Hall

Keythorpe Hall

Description

Keythorpe Hall is a recently refurbished, fully staffed, Georgian country house hidden away in the picture-perfect undulating countryside on the Leicestershire and Rutland border in England.

There are wonderfully proportioned formal rooms, including a grand reception hall with twin fireplaces and grand piano, a dining room to seat up to 22, fully appointed family kitchen and a spectacular double drawing room, all with floor-to-ceiling windows to maximize light and the sweeping views over the rolling hills.

Upstairs you will find 7 large uniquely decorated bedrooms. 5 rooms enjoy an en-suite bathroom, while the further 2 bedrooms can be used as a separate private suite sharing a large bathroom. All bedrooms have sumptuous super king beds, and two of the rooms can be arranged as twins.

There is a further 3 double-bedroomed apartment in the east wing, which would be the perfect getaway for those in your group with young children or teenagers, or for nannies and other private staff.

Food & Drink

In the kitchen we have culinary star Bent Varming, who spent most of his career in London, beginning at Sketch (3*) before working at St. John (1*), the forerunner of nose-to-tail eating, and then moving to renowned Lyle’s (1*) where he was senior sous chef. Bent uses vegetables grown in our walled garden and works closely with local farmers and small artisan businesses to find the best produce around. The menus are hyper-seasonal, constantly changing to champion ingredients at their very best. All menus are fully bespoke, taking into account all preferences and requirements of our guests.

With good food goes good wine. We have teamed up with award-winning sommelier and author of 'Which Wine When’ Bert Blaize. Bert will be your wine concierge - available to create personalized wine and drinks experiences to match the menus and the occasion at Keythorpe Hall.

Activities

Everything you do at Keythorpe Hall is tailor-made just for you, whether you want to just enjoy the grounds and the house or explore the surrounding area. There are over 20 acres of grounds, with 10 acres of formal gardens and woodland, all with paths and walks close to the house. There is a tennis court, a croquet lawn and wood-fired cedar hot tub with spectacular views. Sailing and other water sports at Rutland Water, Europe’s biggest man-made lake, are 15 minutes away, and there is plenty of opportunity for country sports and horse riding.

Any bespoke activity can be arranged – ranging from a Wild Food Walk with our Ethnobotanist and Head Gardener Claudio Bincoletto followed by crafting your own Gin with the botanicals just foraged, to Falconry, Art talks, Cookery Masterclasses or Wine Tastings.

Location

The rolling hills of Leicestershire & Rutland remain a hidden gem in the middle of England. The yellow limestone villages remind you of the Cotswolds but without the tourist crowds, and the area is much more accessible with being under an hour by train from London or a 2-hour drive.

The historic market towns of Uppingham, Oakham and Stamford are close by, and Cambridge and Stratford upon Avon are just over an hour away; Keythorpe Hall is uniquely placed as a base to explore more of the UK.
